Eimear Lawlor

Writer

I live in the beautiful medieval city of Kilkenny in the southeast of Ireland with my husband. Our two sons have now grown and left home. Originally from Co. Cavan, I was fortunate to grow up without the distractions of social media—in fact, at that time, Ireland had only one television station! Yes, I’m that old.

I spent my childhood immersed in books, beginning a deep love for reading and writing. With an insatiable curiosity about the world, I and studied Biological Sciences. After university, I initially considered a career in teaching but soon realised that my true calling was writing. It was only after completing a Diploma in Creative Writing that I gained the confidence to share my work with the world. This course proved transformative, providing me with the courage to pursue my dreams of storytelling.

My work has been featured on popular radio shows such as The Ryan Tubridy Show and The Ray D'Arcy Show on RTÉ Radio One, and I have had short stories published in two anthologies. Writing continues to be a profound passion for me, driving me to create stories that resonate and captivate.

I was selected for a mentoring program with Words Ireland and received a bursary from the Arts Council of Ireland, both of which significantly developed my writing skills. These opportunities culminated in the publication of my debut novel, 'Dublin's Girl,' which became a bestseller, reaching the sixth position on The Irish Times bestseller list—a moment of great pride and validation for me.

Check out the latest work by Eimear Lawlor. This is her debut novel and a work of fiction which was inspired when she read her aunt’s Bureau of Military Statement. Her aunt worked in Dublin for the political party in 1917 that was trying to gain independence from England. Her aunt worked with Michael Collins and Éamon  De Valera who she continued to work for after the Civil War as his private secretary.
